Course & Terrain
The Full Deeside Test
The explorr Marathon follows two laps of the Half Marathon course, doubling the challenge across the forests of Royal Deeside with 734 metres of total elevation. Each lap begins by crossing the River Dee from Banchory before a steady 4.5km climb gains around 150m through forest roads and gravel tracks. Rolling plateau sections offer brief relief before another climb near the 8km mark adds 50m of elevation.
From there the course flows through deep woodland gravel trails before descending towards the River Dee. The final kilometres of each lap follow a beautiful riverside path past quiet fishing beats and open Deeside views, guiding runners back into Banchory before heading out again for lap two. The full course map will be published soon.
